Why I Work From Home

Many people dream of the idea of working from home, starting their own business, or finally busting through the barrier that holds them back from success in their network marketing company. If you speak to most of these people, they will say their goal is to be "full-time." Am I correct?

But what happens once you finally do make it home, reaching your goal, having your own full-time home business? Let me say that if your primary goal is to be full-time, you are going to have a hard time staying full-time.

I don't really know what it is, but I am convinced that there are many things that will happen to make you quit, to make you go back to your old boss asking for your job back. Getting to full time is one thing; staying full time is another. You will have to work just as hard to stay home as you did to get home.

It's kind of like a baseball player who dreams of the Major Leagues. He goes through all the minor league stuff, pays the price, makes the sacrifice, and finally gets called up to play at the Major League level. It doesn't stop there. He must continue to work hard, improve his skills, raise his goals, and stay focused if he is going to remain on top. Too many Major Leagures are sent back down to the minors because they didn't have "staying power."

That is why you must soon know "WHY" you want to work from home. Being focused on your "why" will drive you to work hard and doing what it takes so you have the "staying power" to go way beyond working from home full-time.

Here are some reasons why I work from home. The list could be longer, but you get the idea.

  • I don't like to commute to work. It's a waste of my "limited" time.
  • I don't want to give my best hours to some company. I want to give it to my family
  • I really don't like someone else telling me what to do every day.
  • I am more alive when I am creating than when I am grinding through a job.
  • I cherish the freedom to travel, set my own schedule, go on church mission trips.
  • I like going to the movies with my wife at noon when the theatres are less crowded.
  • I like to go to the midnight Harry Potter book release at Barnes and Noble, and not be worried that I will be late for work the next morning.
  • I like to be available 24/7 if someone needs me, instead of anytime after 6 pm, but before 9 pm.
  • I like to set my own financial ceiling.
  • And many, many other reasons.
I have been full-time (defined as completely free of needing a JOB or other form of employment for my daily, monthly, or annual existence) for nearly 4 years now. It has been a fight at times to get to stay home. But, my list of hundreds of reasons why keeps me home, doing what it takes to keep my dream alive.

I once heard Jeff Hughes of PrePaid Legal state that because he has lived the life of working from home full-time, tasted of the life of being his own boss, and had lived for several years now in this freedom, that he was virtually "unemployable."

There is a HUGE difference between being unemployed and unemployable. I encourage you to cast your vision, set your goals, and then pay the price to not only get home full-time, but stay home full-time as well. Just like Major Leaguers who are sent back down to the minors, you can lose what you've worked for if you don't have a strong enough or long enough list of reasons why you want and need to work from home.

In other words, stop playing games. If the company where your job is now ran their business that way you're trying to run your home business, how successful do you think they'd be? Get serious; get focused. Invest in yourself; invest in your business. Stop trying to turn $10 into millions. Don't be cheap. Live smart, but live large. Enjoy your life and make life enjoyable for others.
